The HMS Resolute Desk is a hand-carved humidor created as a faithful replica of the iconic “Resolute Desk” in the Oval Office. This symbol of the American presidency has an extraordinary origin: it refers to a desk given by Queen Victoria to President Rutherford B. Hayes in 1880 , made from oak beams from the ship HMS Resolute .
The abbreviation HMS stands for Her Majesty's Ship (in the time of the King it would have been His Majesty's Ship) and is the traditional designation for ships of the British Royal Navy . HMS Resolute was a 19th-century British research ship that participated in Arctic expeditions. She was abandoned after becoming trapped in ice, but was later found by Americans, repaired, and given back to Queen Victoria as a gesture of friendship.
When the ship was finally decommissioned, Queen Victoria had a desk made from its wood, which she subsequently gifted to President Rutherford B. Hayes in 1880. Today, the "Resolute Desk" is one of the most recognizable symbols of the Oval Office and has been used by almost all American presidents.
Daniel Marshall has been a symbol of quality since 1982 and provides a lifetime warranty on all humidors.
